If you've been waiting to find out whether your Galaxy phone is getting Android 17, Samsung has now put a proper list in writing. It came from Samsung's Japan newsroom, so the dates are local, but the model list is the clearest sign yet of which phones and tablets will get One UI 9 around the world.

What happened

Samsung Japan announced that One UI 9, its Android 17 based software, is rolling out to Galaxy models released from the Galaxy S23 series onward. Until now it had only been on the newest foldables (Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8) and the Galaxy Tab S12 range. 9to5Google picked the list up on 23 October and pointed out that it should broadly apply outside Japan too.

Here are the phones on Samsung's list:

  • Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra
  • Galaxy S25 and S25 Ultra, plus Galaxy S24, S24 Ultra and S24 FE
  • Galaxy S23, S23 Ultra and S23 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, Z Fold5 and Z Flip5
  • Galaxy A57, A55, A54, A36 and A25

Tablets on the list include the Galaxy Tab S11 and S11 Ultra, Tab S10, S10+, S10 Ultra, S10 FE, S10 FE+ and S10 Lite, the Tab S9 family including the FE models, Tab S6 Lite (2024), Tab A11, Tab A11+ and the Tab Active5 Pro.

In Japan the rollout runs from mid-October to late November depending on model and carrier, with one outlier: the KDDI version of the Galaxy S23 FE isn't due until mid-January 2027. Samsung Japan's own version page already shows Android 17 live on the S25, S26 and Fold7/Flip7 there.

Why it matters

Samsung's global rollouts tend to follow the same pattern: flagships first, then older flagships, then the A series and tablets. So even if you're not in Japan, this list gives you a good idea of where you stand. Bear in mind it isn't complete. Models like the S25+ and S24+ and many regional A series phones aren't named, which most likely reflects what Samsung sells in Japan rather than which phones are being dropped.

What to do

  • Check for the update yourself in Settings > Software update > Download and install. Timing differs by country and carrier, so don't worry if a friend gets it first.
  • Back up before a major version jump, and do it over Wi-Fi with plenty of charge. These updates are large.
  • If your phone is older than the S23 series or isn't on the list, it's worth checking Samsung's support page for your region before assuming it's out of luck.

Once you've updated, it's a nice time to tidy up your settings. My guide to blocking ads with Private DNS on Android works on Samsung phones too.
