Samsung has made a lot of earbuds, but it has never made a pair that clips onto your ear instead of sitting inside it. That changes this week. The Galaxy Buds On go on sale in Korea on October 27, and I spotted the pricing in [Android Authority's write-up](https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-buds-on-launch-3727745/?ref=blog.harshkohli.com) before going back to Samsung's own announcement for the details.

## What happened

According to [Samsung Newsroom Korea](https://news.samsung.com/kr/%EC%82%BC%EC%84%B1%EC%A0%84%EC%9E%90-%EA%B0%A4%EB%9F%AD%EC%8B%9C-%EC%B5%9C%EC%B4%88-%ED%81%B4%EB%A6%BD%ED%98%95-%EB%AC%B4%EC%84%A0-%EC%9D%B4%EC%96%B4%ED%8F%B0-%EA%B0%A4%EB%9F%AD%EC%8B%9C-%EB%B2%84?ref=blog.harshkohli.com), the Buds On are an open-ear design that hooks around the outer ear and leaves the ear canal free. Samsung pairs a TwinBoost speaker with something it calls Audio Leakage Reduction, which is meant to keep your music from spilling out to the people around you. Open-ear buds usually struggle with exactly that.

Inside there's a Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform and a Class-D amp. Samsung rates battery life at up to 9.5 hours of music on one charge. For calls you get three mics plus a bone-conduction Voice Pickup Unit, which picks up your voice through vibration rather than just through the air.

The software side leans on Gemini. You can start a Gemini Live chat by voice, long-press to record a quick voice memo (that one needs a Galaxy AI phone with the Samsung Voice Recorder and Bixby apps), and nod or shake your head to answer prompts. Pairing pops up when you open the case, so you don't need the Galaxy Wearable app to get started.

They come in black only and cost ₩299,000 in Korea, which works out to roughly $226\. Samsung says other markets will follow, but it hasn't given dates or prices yet. There's no official India price either, so any rupee figure you see right now is a guess. SammyGuru did spot Swiss retail listings at CHF 179 to 199, but those aren't from Samsung.

## Why it matters

Clip-on earbuds have turned into a real category. Bose, Huawei and a handful of smaller brands already sell them, and people like them for running, cycling and long days at a desk, when sealing your ears off is either unsafe or just tiring. Samsung jumping in tells you this isn't a niche fad anymore.

The catch with open-ear designs is always the same. Bass is thin and anything nearby can hear what you're playing. Whether Audio Leakage Reduction actually fixes the second problem is something I'd want to hear for myself, because every brand makes a similar claim.

## What to do

- If you live in Korea, Samsung says buyers who purchase by November 30 get two 30% accessory coupons, valid until December 20.
- Everywhere else, wait for your local launch and price before you pre-order from a grey importer.
- Check that your phone supports Galaxy AI if the voice memo shortcut matters to you, since it won't work without it.
- Read proper reviews on sound leakage and fit before buying. Clip-on comfort varies a lot from ear to ear.

If you're on a Galaxy phone, it's also worth seeing [which devices are getting One UI 9](https://blog.harshkohli.com/samsung-one-ui-9-android-17-devices/), since a lot of these AI features depend on it.
