# Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Adds Console Mods

Six years in, Cyberpunk 2077 still isn't finished getting new stuff. CD Projekt Red pushed out a free update this week, and it's bigger than I expected for a game that most of us assumed was done after Phantom Liberty.

## What happened

The Edgerunners 2 Update, also called Update 2.5, went live on 22 October 2026 on PC (Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store), Mac, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. [CD Projekt announced it](https://www.cdprojekt.com/en/media/news/cyberpunk-edgerunners-2-premieres-on-netflix-new-update-announced-for-cyberpunk-2077/?ref=blog.harshkohli.com) on 20 October, the same day the second season of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime landed on Netflix. The Nintendo Switch 2 version and the Mac App Store version follow a few days later.

According to the [official patch notes](https://www.cyberpunk.net/en/news/52120/check-out-whats-coming-to-night-city-in-the-edgerunners-2-update-for-cyberpunk-2077?ref=blog.harshkohli.com), the headline additions are:

- Clampdown, a new side quest set before the events of the new anime season. You unlock it by finishing The Heist and two gigs for Wakako.
- A five-piece gear set based on the character King, plus a new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, with music from the show.
- A Double Trouble perk in the Cool tree that lets you dual-wield Power pistols and revolvers.
- Cyberware skins. You can now restyle Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System at new Glamdoc shops.
- Cross-platform mod support through mod.io, built into the game menu, including on consoles.
- A guided Night City tour quest narrated by Richard Night, 12 new tarot cards to find, and saves grouped by playthrough.

## Why it matters

The mod support is the bit I care about most. Console players have never had an easy way to install Cyberpunk mods, and now there's a curated list right inside the game. It's only a selection for now, and CD Projekt says more will be added over time, but it's a real change from "PC only, figure it out yourself".

It's also free for anyone who owns the base game. You don't need Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition, and you can carry on with your current save.

## What to do

- On PC, PS5 or Xbox, it should already be downloaded if your console or launcher is online. Check the version number says 2.5.
- Be careful with mods and trophies. The patch notes say modded saves get their own icon, and achievements and trophies can't be earned while mods are active.
- If you use older PC mods, back up your saves before launching. Big patches often break them until the authors catch up.
- Switch 2 owners just need to wait a little longer.
